10K race?? check.
um. not. I finished half of a madass cross-country 10K race this morning- after running 8 miles last weekend (on, um... flat ground) I thought it would be do-able. I was fine with coming in a good 10-20 minutes AFTER the slowest person from last year. Really. I am not yet trying to be fast..
But this? TORTURE! so many hills! straight up the whole time it seemed! 45 degrees in places!! I was SO NOT running the SECOND LOOP of it. Gotta be kidding me.
Also... the volunteers for the race- who guide you and cheer you on? - were NOT CHEERING ME (last by a good several minutes at that point) ON. Or even looking up to acknowledge me. Boo. You stink. Other runners were somewhat saying yay, way to go, but for the most part? NO LOVE!
So-yes. ran 5K in a super hilly race. didn't do bad at all, for me, considering it was MOUNTAINS! (heh- right next to the flat part I ran last week..) Only a minute or so slower than my 5K's, so considering, I'd be super fast if they removed the climbing parts. right??
Conclusion? Cross country people are snobby, except for the three people who weren't.
Anyhow, I still got free breakfast of muffins and bagels from it. yum for free races that feed you!
I will be trying a
real 10K next weekend! And I might totally go
buy yarn aferwards as a reward!
