stitch pattern?

a friend would love to have a hat like this, but in different colors...

any idea what sort of stitch pattern this is? it looks sort of like cables, but not quite.

Okay, so swatching like crazy a few days ago... I think this is a simple cable pattern. Over four stitches... [twist the first two left, twist the second two right]. knit two rows (in the round) [twist the first two RIGHT, twist the second two LEFT]. knit two rows. Repeat.

It's a nice pattern, and not annoying enough to need a cable needle! I'll post photos of it (or what I think it is!) when I can..

Good morning - the hat pattern looks a bit like a tiny version of Honeycomb cables. It LOOKS like a repeat of 4 stitches: knit 1, purl 2, knit 1. On row 1, do a left twist, one knit over the first purl, then do a right twist,the second knit over the second purl.
Row 2: work them as they appear, knit the knits and purl the purls.
Row 3: do a right twist, the knit stitch back "out" over the purl, then do a left twist, the second knit stitch back "out" over the purl.
Row 4: knit the knits and purl the purls.

Repeat, changing colors as wished, I guess?

Makes a nice, cushy, warm fabric.

I think it might be a yarnover and then knit together in the next row.
