wow, it's been over a month! I've been out of town for much of the past month - germany for vacation, then off to North Carolina for SAFF, then Boulder, CO for work. Now I am home, for a while, I hope!
Germany was excellent - lots of great beer, sausage, chocolate, etc. We even hopped over to Salzburg - a quick jaunt from Munich when you're driving 180 km an hour (in pouring rain, holy crap!). Went to Oktoberfest and drank big beers, went to the hometown of my husband's dad. Then Berlin and Frankfurt! Lots and lots of walking, even more eating, and loads of visiting. Perfect!

Gryphon was an adventure. The drive to Asheville goes on and on forever. 300 miles on one road! And then some more. We hit up 5 states in all, somehow. MD, VA, TN, NC, SC. The views were great - much like the beautiful colors you see at Rhinebeck!

So there was a lot of yarning, obviously. The festival was held in a pretty dusty dark building, but had a nice vibe. Not as packed as MDSW, but friendly and manageable! There was a slight amount of dressing up:

and a lot of wine and craziness in the evening with the new friends we stayed with.

It was great fun and I had a blast! Haha, hopefully Gryphon will invite me again, though I totally messed up her system multiple times... I think we solved my problems, but man, sorry about all that!
After that, Gryphon dropped me off in Charlotte, where I had a hotel and a flight in the morning... my back was a little ouchy in the evening, so I mostly collapsed in to bed. And did *not* sleep well. :( I woke up with a totally wrecked lower back. Owowow. I would have liked to lay on the cool tile floor of the bathroom, but not with my 7:30 flight. Argh. so not a fun day! Two planes to get to Denver, then a drive and sitting in meetings all afternoon - much harder with a bad back! So moral of the story? I need to work out more! Or at least bring a strong man to carry our stuff?
