purples
Spent the last couple days going from this:
to this:
It has a lot of nice colors in it, but overall, it's sort of more darker than I'd hoped. The grape color really overpowered it all. Maybe adding one of the berry (blue) colors to the cherry would produce a nicer purple? Anyhow, I still like the way there are tons of different hues within it. And it's much more interesting to spin than colored roving, that's for sure! :)
Now I need to finally finish that Debbie Bliss Cardigan.. Yet another month has passed and I am still not done. Sad! Maybe it'll be finished in time for their second child? Anyhow, THIS WEEKEND I'll try. I really don't mind seaming. What is my problem!?
and there is color
so after a few days of being completely bored by this:
which is actually quite lovely, a nice merino... just
*the same exact color* as all of my walls (making it hard to see what I'm doing)...I was inspired by
Kate, and her Kool Aid fun:
The color sort of sunk to the bottom, so that part is brighter than the top, but I'm sure it'll even out once it's spun. I'm not so into the grape color, but the rest sort of made it okay.
I've got hope yet for Anouk beng a proper toddler dress. Chris at
Chrisknits had the same idea.. and is knitting Anouk in the round. (Wish I'd thought of that before finishing the front!) I'm going to check out some baby store dresses this weekend to make sure it won't be too narrow, but I'm really hoping I can just make the front and back, seam them, and be done with it. I do like the yarn though.. it's so soft! I hope it holds up nicely.
Running was good last night.. I'm not pushing myself too much- I should be running 1-2 minutes then 1 minute walking- but my walking breaks take WAY more than the 1 minute I should be doing. But I noticed for the first time that I find myself panting because I think I'm out of breath, only I'm NOT! That's progress, right?!
sugar is always good
I forgot to mention before that I got my pima tencel for anouk at
One Fine Yarn. And they were pretty quick and relatively cheap. But the best part- they included candy in their order! Okay, so it was just a few toffees, but how nice of them! Made me happy!
I finished the first half of
Anouk.. looks mostly the same, so no need for pictures. same with the sock... I'm in it for the long haul on the top now.. endless rows of ribbing.
I have been working on spinning this merino I got at
MD Sheep and Wool. It's pretty nice, but a bit harder to spin than the BFL. I guess the fibers are a little shorter. Looks like it'll be nice and soft though!
On the running front- ran last Saturday.. maybe an hour total. I was somewhere around walk 1 min run 90 sec. I'd guess we went 1.5-2 miles, but I'm not sure. My legs were too tired to go sunday like I was supposed to. Tonight we're running on the track.
progress
Last night we had the monthly knitting meetup at Mayorga. I actually got in some knitting time on both Anouk and the sock.
The sock is a bit rough on my hands.. I don't mind the dpns, but I think the smaller guage is making my hands sore after a bit. But that just means I need more projects to switch to, right?!
oh- and we ran today! um.. or walked? I only ran a few minutes.. my knee was hurting slightly, so figured I should be nice to it. But I went at least 2 miles.. round and round a track at a local middle school.
woops.
So anouk.. is not a dress! Only, the picture in knitty sorta made it look like a dress, and I (stupidly) didn't read over the instructions well... I sorta glanced em over, and looked for something on seaming, but didn't worry when I didn't find it. This isn't so bad, but I really WANTED to make a dress! Maybe I can just add in some panels on the side and pretend it'll work? It *is* still super cute, though, even if it's not a dress.
In other news, I did run #2 with the running club yesterday.. only noone really showed up. It was raining/t-storming a bit, but was over by the time we were to meet. I was the only beginner, but there were a few others out at least. I think I did about 2 miles, and ran maybe a bit less than half? I'm still not into the whole running however many minutes and walking a minute thing- I tend to go til I can't breath any more then I need a while to recover. It's getting better, though.
beach knitting
This weekend we went to
Assateague for some camping. It was remarkably bug free- mosquitoes weren't out yet, and the Eastern Shore is Cicada Free! :) It was, however, incredibly windy. Windy, as in, we emptied the contents of my car into the tent, and it still wanted to blow out to sea. Yikes. So yeah, didn't hang out at the camp site as much as we might have. I'm ashamed to admit it, but we actually went... outlet shopping! And to the Boardwalk in Ocean City. (It was just 10 miles away...)
While working on a lovely sunburn (confined to the 6 square inches of my neck that didn't get slathered in sunscreen), I worked on
Anouk, from knitty. Think I might try for black-eyed susans (the MD state flower) instead of poppies, as it's for the daughter of some friends that moved away from MD.
finishing, and finishing socks (finally some knitting!)
I'm almost done with this Debbie Bliss baby cardigan I've been working on... only, I'm completely bored with it as I made another one in a different color just a few months ago, and hate the yarn. Boo. But it's almost done, and the baby is now 6 months old, and I'm really hoping I made the 9-12 month size! It's for a baby in Australia, and I imagine it's about sweater season. So soon... it'll get done.
I've also started a pair or Toe-up socks, in Koigu. I like the toe up idea. And the short rows, for both the toe and the heel. So I'm really hoping that I'll finish BOTH SOCKS this time. I don't know how many times I've started socks and decided that I hated them, so didn't finish. Or ripped back and got tired of the yarn. I'm kinda picky about the way the toes and heels look. at the moment, the toe looks weird to me, but on my foot, it seems normalish, so we'll see how far I get.
Mom's Day Yarn
Here is what my mom got this year:
More Koo1 Aid Dyed BFL- about 125 yards.
howdy.
Finally joining the blog world..
the Kool aid dyed roving
on the drop spindle
the single before plying
The skein on top is the Kool-aid dyed blue faced leicester, and the bottom is from a bunch of handfuls of some wool I got at the MD Sheep & Wool Festival last week.
