Woolarina
whew!
there's been more spinning like a maniac (and more dyed hands- my roving doesn't seem to be fond of orange/red- it's been leaking on my hands!) Pictures once I ever remember to fotograph when the sun is up.. one is 103 yards of falklands plied with thread:

the other is ~60 yards of falklands:

this last bit is a yarnlet left over from the oranges that are up on the site.. one day I'll have tons of yarnlets to do something!

Anyhow: exercise... yesterday did ~35 minutes of yoga. today, ran! lots! 40 minutes including warmup, with over a minute run 12 times... that's about run 1 walk 2? almost... a couple times at the end I ran straight for a couple minutes.. woo!
jogging
I'm joining another running club- this time slightly closer to home... I was a "beginner" in another club last year.. it was fun, but.. I'm still a beginner. (though no fault of theirs, I just haven't really run since my first 5K in august..) this is a women's beginner group, meets just 10 weeks, with a goal of a 5K. The bad thing is, I can only get to one of there meetings each week- saturdays at 7:30 or 8 am! ugh... also, to get from zero to 5 K in 10 weeks, I'll have to run like 4 times a week! Wah.
But, if, at the end of it, I make a time of 5K in 35 minutes, I'm allowed to go spa-ing with a friend!
So- to start with, 30 minutes on the tread mill. ~2 miles.. one minute running with 3 minutes walking... (it's a start!)
new yarns!
this is my
favorite...
and these? aren't even mine.. they belong to
kate (who's cameraless at the moment).. I love them too!
In fact, I have several balls of fluff that I totally adore:
handspinny goodness
If I were yarn, I'd be merino... it's so dreamy! I just want to hold it all day. I so don't want to sell them. pictures of mine (and perhaps kate's) sometime soon. and some rainbowy roving.
heh. when I got back to work, my coworkers asked how germany was.. and it didn't occur to me that I should correct them.. might as well have been germany anyhow, with all the germans we saw! and really, if you ignored the dustiness and the orange groves in valencia, coulda been anywhere in europe! The food, however, was SO much better than german. tapas rock.
spun!
been spinning madly in the past few days- missed my wheel so much on the trip! this skein I decided to see how much would really fit...

many more pretty colors to come! much roving has been dyed!
back (and alive!)
back after two pretty scary turbulent flights and a totally awful cold had the worst timing ever. paris was great.. spain was also great, it seems.. I was mostly holed up in the hotel room or blindly following people about, trying to walk straight... what I did see was nice though! And the wedding was awesome.. think orange groves and an endlss supply of booze. Mmmmm. Gonna be hard to beat all these fun weddings we've been attending.. maybe we could really just go to barbados??
throughout the entire trip, I managed to knit exactly 6 rows of a new project. that's it! Most of the time was spent walkin or eating/drinking or sleeping. the only knitty stuff I did manage was in paris... my cousin and I made a sort of tour of many yarn shops and a cheapo notions shop. here's what i got...

the book was just too cute to pass up.. I adore the snail on the cover, as well as all the tiny outfits! I'm going need to brush up on my french, or at least find my french dictionary!

the next shot is from some random bus stop ad in spain.. anyone know spanish? I'm curious as to how "next" relates to knitting... no es cuadrado, no es redondo, es next??? (not square, not round... )??? no idea. but it was photo worthy, anyhow.

and, by the way, have europeans not heard of LUNG CANCER??? I mean, seriously, is it necessary to smoke during breakfast, for god's sake? soooo gross... ashtrays *everywhere*. *everyone* smoking.. even if I wasn't being deathly ill with a cold (much fun finding medecine in spanish, btw!) I'd find it awful! I just don't understand.
anyhow, off to lose the fiht against jetlag.. sorry for the tons of missing letters.. my computer seems to have decided to suck while I was away. keyboard isn't happy. internet explorer? won't let me see it. also, battery seems to not work at all. hmph.
au revoir, adios
I am out of here til next thursday! Bringing nothing but a small single skein of handspun and some size 3 dpns to make a new camera case. There'll also be some shopping, so I think I'll find something to occupy myeslf with once I'm done with that!
In other news- must france ALWAYS
strike when i come to visit? I'm starting to think it's just me! :) We're staying a block or two from Place d'Italie (where the march starts), so if we can't get away on the train, we'll be watching the french complain about their *oh so long* 35 hour workweek!
colors for spring
so now that it's march,
kate and I *had* to have another dyefest, apparently. she sneakily *needed* to dye yarn for clapotis... and, oh... had a hell of a lot more yarn than necessary for a scarf!! And I just happened to get a box containing this in the mail:

it looks pretty innocent, right? all bundled up, it was. after I sprung it free? it overpopulated my living room quickly with baby wool balls! (at 8.5 pounds, a pretty healthy weight!)

Anyhow, so yeah, lots of yarn at kate's house, and lots of wool at my house. what are two girls to do?
how about some of this?

here's a
panoramic shot of the finished goods! (wow- it's zoomable!!)
Didn't manage to get pictures of Rogue, but.. well, it's a sweater in progress. unexciting. Exciting is that I am past the pocket! Woo! I've not ever made a pocket before, so yay! It hurts my hands soooo much though, and I am so off guage. I'm just starting to repeat rows at this point.. I need to come up with almost 2.5 inches, and a couple extra cables should about do it.
clap-o-tee and bothersome people
c'est finis.

was finished frantically on the plane to manchester, NH and in the back seat of the van to the hotel in MA in anticipation of ACTUAL SNOW. It performed lovely... warm and smooshy as a scarf, yet stretch-out-able to cover yourself when you are freezing in an auditorium where people don't seem to notice that the COLD AIR is blowing directly on you.
---a bit of complaining... feel free to ignore this!---
So at the beginning of this year, after the tsunami and all that, I gave. a bunch. to several large organizations. who now have me on the list for every damn thing they do. I'm now a "member".. ??? for a $25 total contribution? wth? I managed to email them in time to get myself off their list they sell- I hope! they will spend more than $25 in their attempts over the coming years to get more money out of me. Ain't gonna happen. Note to charities: only pester people who give "real" money- over a few hundred at a time at least! my measly contributions might add up, eventually. if you stop calling me and mailing me crap about how you need more money. Ugh. I like giving money, but don't need updates on every little detail. I always feel so bad for saying no, too. but uh, student loans, wedding, car, house?
Also, to the wankers who keep calling me and sending me mail about refinancing that student loan? Guess what!?!? I graduated at probably the best possible time. There isn't a chance in hell you could get me a better deal on interest rates. LEAVE ME ALONE! Is a phone message telling me an 800 number to call really gonna change my mind? Does this work for anyone?!?
To the people who send out victoria's secret catalogs? Um.. I order online. save the trees and all? how can I stop from being bombarded?
And finally- UPS? you suck! and companies who upgrade shipping without really telling you. I thought it'd be nice, getting a package overnighted. Only, we're not ever home when the ups dude comes. Requiring me to sign for a package means I won't get it. which is why I didn't WANT overnight! thanks anyhow, but apparently my new shoes have been sitting in the apartment office for the past week, no notice to me. thanks so much.
next up, a happy update on rogue. after I finally get some sleep and some healthy food. (had a rough trip -consumed lots of filet mignon when all my colleagues insisted on eating solely at seafood restaurants.. now I'm needing something not beefy.)
