Woolarina
loving merino.
I've been itching to try some of our handspun merino. Dying! But Kate sneakily took the yarn to her house after the fair, and when I was over there, I decided none of the handspun beauties were quite right to play with. Instead, I finally got to washing mr. ugly yarn. (see down a few entries.) This yarn is... bright yellow and dark blue, and *every* shade in-between. It's sorta neat, in a not-quite-pretty kind of way. but perfect to play with. and someone is bound to like the colors, right? It's delightfully soft.. that should make up for it!

Made this mostly while waiting around at
Maryland Day for someone's lab tours to end so we could go get more free icecream. :) Yum.
Also finished much of a wine tote... same as before, not so interesting! it's neat that the colors form a spiral down the length... I'd hoped for something more random, but I guess it depends on the width of the knit too..

And running this morning.. rocked. except for the standing in the rain for 40 minutes listening to a lecture on clothing. (wear good stuff) Ran up and down hills for 20 minutes straight. didn't die.
sigh..
how could 17 minutes of running seem so long? And why on earth does my running club require only 15 minutes of running on our "other" days? I feel sorta silly stopping! went running after work, at work. Who knew goddard had gardens! wow..
the fun begins again!
we're attempting to do a couple of craft fairs in June, so I'm starting to knit more... the best part is that it's our own yarn! Yay! I've been itching to wind it into a ball and play. This is the start of a wine tote:

There will hopefully be many more in the next month! They also make good flying projects, and I'm flying a bit soon... to sunny glasgow, scotland! Has anyone ever been? I hear it's "Better than it used to be"... what's that mean? does it suck less? I mean, DC used to be like the crack capital or something, but now it's better.. right? Hmm. Still, I can't wait! Someplace new! Plus, we'll hopefully take the train places.. Edinburgh, castley places... only 4 days though. Boo for work!
5K, here I come...
ran 2 miles, straight! in 26-27 minutes. After running once a week for the past few weeks. Imagine if I actually applied myself and did my other "required" runs... I'd be a running genius! ;) Haha... sorry I sound so lame.. I do realize that normal people can run easier than me! but- TWO MILES! Wooo!
and really- back to knitting and spinning! finally! it has been a while! First up is rogue- I haven't forgotten her! I got to about an inch above the pocket this weekend. and now my wrist hates me! she will have to get done slowly I guess..

also, some spinning! I only have about 7 balls of dyed roving left, so am hurrying to finish it up so I can justify another dye day! these are merino singles, 100 yards and 115 yards.
craft fair!
the craft fair was great fun... go check it out at
lolly's! We sold a bunch of yarn.. *almost* enough to justify buying more, if the right kind came up on sale... but I want to focus more on spinning for the time being, so we'll see.
Now I'm in mad program mode... haha.. my paypal setup is all messed up!! wrong prices, no shipping, no tax! Agh! What a nightmare! Anyhow,
Chelsea has the honor of first ever mail order... free shipping and tax *plus* a little surprise! Can't beat that!
Heh- I think we should have "secret prize" yarns... like, if you order one that's on the list, you get a secret prize. like, at craft fairs, we always have the one purse or bag that we totally hate or just want to get rid of... Hmmm. we'll see. first is getting the site in order!
If anyone happens to want some yarn soonish, please email me first so I can send an invoice or something.. work is mad right now and I just don't have time to fix all of the zillion paypal buttons!
my sunday was spent driving up and down rockville pike in the cold and watching these guys run... the Pike's Peak 10K in Rockville. Marcel came in 11 seconds after armin. :( So close!!!
1 day to go to the craft fair!
I've been sewing these things like mad... well, like mad when I actually have time! (which isn't so often lately!)

So yeah, one day to go! If anyone wants to come and see us or hang out a bit at UMD, it sounds like it should be fun.. and may or may not be free- otherwise, just $2, and for a good cause! 1-6 pm at the Nyumburu cultural center, next to Stamp Union. Let me know if you need directions!

Last night we went to the new
Strathmore Center to see
Dee Dee Bridgewater, a jazz singer. Super fun, though we had the nosebleed seats. Also, some moron took forever to answer their phone during the bass solo. Ugh. And? What's up with the lady wearing jeans/jean jacket and practically barefoot but putting her feet all over the pole next to her? Ew! Money doesn't equal class, I guess. Ugh. Their row emptied after intermission (along with some totally cute little girls in pretty outfits!)... anyhow, aside from wierd people, the night was fun!
no knitting..
but lots of other fun things...
like tins! great for putting little knitting doodads into.. or candy. we made a whole bunch of cleartop ones and some that aren't so see-thru.

and sachets!

These guys are filled with lavendar, but I'm also making some that are filled with other herbs, which are also apparently moth-proof. (so is lavendar, but it's sorta girly smelling for my tastes!)
I'll be knitting more soon.. need to finish a felted bag or two for the craft fair... and I might even start on rogue again.. right,
Lara?
#$@$!% 1.25 miles.
I ran for 1.25 miles. straight. in about 16 or 17 minutes. Um? what the hell? This is GREAT NEWS! (this was also the first track workout of the beginning women runners)...
why have I never done this before? Sure, I've "run" further, but it always always involved stopping at a couple minutes to walk. this? I just don't know what happened.
Actually, it was mostly the lady I was running with.. she's about 10 years older, and soooo not a runner... she kept at it, and made me as well! As much as I hate the rah rah factor, it worked! wow..
there was also a gaggle of students therebefore we started.. oh my... hundreds of skinny fast high school students in a track meet! thank goodness they were leaving after we started.. oh, and the kids playing "track meet" after - sooo cute! kids ranging from like 3 to 9 running and screaming and cheering! except that even the 3 year old was zooming along compared to us..

Kate and I are doing a craft fair in a couple of weeks- for
visions in feminism. It's a fundraiser for a conference they are having in May. From their website:

It should be a fun time. In preparation, we've been spinning like mad and knitting silly little things, like pouches:

and sewing bags:

We'll have tons of handspun and whatnot as well- hoping at least some of the people there knit! So come and hang out some and see some local craftspeople..
I *so* don't need more crafts to do.
here's some of what kate and I did last weekend:

and here is a book I found. it just looks fun... things made outof felt. super cute.

uhhh... does anyone read japanese?

Also- running running running. ran today. 1 min run and 1 min walk. for over half an hour! my legs are TIRED! about 2.5 miles.
runnin just as fast as I can
happy spring/ daylight savings time. where'd the sun go? I'm ready for warm! though I did just buy some cool-weather running gear. speaking of which- 33 minutes on the treadmill- 2 mins. walking, 90 sec. running. that's 13.5 minutes total.. just over 2 miles.
I'm gearing up for a tentative 2-mile fun run at work. Ummm... next week! I think during the run, I'd actually run more, and be all jazzed, so won't be so sloooow.. we'll see! I might chicken out...
more dyeing happened. I need to stop hanging out with kate. we have enough yarn to last a lifetime. I *think* we're done dyeing for a while, but I *still* have more white roving. I have too many balls of colored roving to count. 6.5 pounds is indeed a lot!! Photos of the prettiness tomorrow, when it'll be light when I get home!
spin, span, spun
more of the same... yesterday I plied some rainbow singles- my first navajo/3-ply. And ranbow colors! so pretty! and soft- it's merino. whee!! 139 yds.

and more merino, this time phat singles. 135 and 128 yds, I think. I want to eat them!
