Woolarina
so pink!
we went to see
pink martini tonight at the 9:30 club. It was sort of surreal... the doors opened at 6:30, and it started at 7 pm... let out before dark! not long enough, though they played tons and were awesome! they had about a zillion percussioners, which is always fun. And most everyone played like 5 different things. plus they have cello AND bass. and a fun piano guy. mmmmm.. And they are all super edumacated. Fun show. even my guy was impressed!
Anyhow, check them out, they rock!
how embarassing...
the ups man brought me a little sum-in today while I was on the phone...

He musta thought I had a whole load of non-potty-trained tikes or something... yikes! what an odd box to send something in! But recycle/reuse, I guess.
Inside was what I was after. many pounds of merino. I'm so in heaven! Look for tons more handspun in a couple weeks! this is a *hella lot* of wool!

I've been a little hogwild with the online shopping the last week or so, and am expecting yet more packages.. partly the whole runner excitement thing (new socks! shorts! bras!) and part birthday/anniversary goodies por moi. It helps that I got a little bonus at work! :) yay guilt free shopping!
In more important news... website has been massively updated!
wedding planning? it sucks.
We hauled ourselves at the last minute out to Boyds, MD to attend an "open house" at a
possible wedding/reception venue. Got slightly excited when they appeared to have drinks and snacks at this open house... only, no. no drinks. no snacks. private party. yeah. So still no idea about details and important stuff. It is pretty far from our cozy old Silver Spring, so maybe it's a sign? It was nice inside though.. big and lodgy. but no flowers, and the outside was like a big grassy backyard. not enough?
Our frontrunner,
Mrs. K's Tollhouse, is mostly great. And slighytly affordable, probably. The only bad thing is that if there are more than 72 people, we'll have two rooms, separated by a few steps and some windows. just sort of annoying, for those people stuck on top. (who makes the "A" list and sits below?) it's also about a quarter to half mile walk to metro, so people could stay downtown and walk... or stagger back to hotels. and the outside, where the ceremony would be? pretty pretty lowers everywhere. and a fountain and pond. getting very hard to beat. what to do?
I feel like I've probably talked about this already in my blog.. maybe not? I don't remember anymore.. if so, sorry... wedding talk is so super boring. sigh. I just wanna sign a check and be done with it!
still not a lot of pictures.. but here's one of our departed yarns... superchunky merino singles. I almost was going to keep it and marry it, but I kept myself under control...

in running news: ran 31 minutes sunday, and 4 miles (mostly) yesterday.. about 51 minutes. 4 miles here I come!
silk?
I have several thingies of silk roving that I've been staring at since February. Silk sliver from
Spirit Fiber Trail. It's totall pretty and I wanna do something nice with it... only, what?
Do I ply it with a wool (merino)? ply it to itself? How does one spin silk anyhow? I keep having breakage problems, and am getting frustrated. also, my wheel dislikes spinning thin... it was suggested I learn the long draw technique with silk, but... ??? no idea where to begin!
slow season?
Has not been a lot to blog about lately.. or, just to busy to blog? I've been spinning and knitting and running and craft fairing, but it all seems mostly uninteresting. I'm finally downloading pictures from my camera, and there are over a hundred! wonder what I'll find...
In running news, we ran a 5K over the weekend.. was not as good as I'd hoped, but I haven't been running a lot lately with the heat! We still have to get our runs up to at least 4 miles by mid-July, or the next training program (10K!!!) will kick our butts!
Somehow I look a lot fresher at the end of this race than at the end of the 4 miler I did last month.. maybe I should have run faster?

Some knitting soonish.. have lots done or in the works, but no photos...
psssst...
you crazy shawl makers... there will be a color or two worth of enough lace weight merino to make whatever pattern your needles are wanting. All in Takoma. Saturday. (or on the site sunday if noone wants to knit lace in this crazy summer heat! ;)
colors are top secret though. no photos!
Yarn Goodness in Takoma Park!! this SATURDAY!
Saturday June 11, 11 AM to 7 PM - the Takoma Park Jazzfest. Metro to Takoma!
summertime!
just in time for our.. umm. *wool* sale. Ugh. Saturday's craft fair was incredibly HOT OUT! Like, drink liters of cold water hot! It was great fun the first several hours... then? just sweaty. and hot. thank goodness I macguyver-ed a rear tent cover, or I'd surely have been burnt to a crisp! managed only a very slight, invisible if you aren't me sunburn. yay! goal one accomplished!
the fair itself was fun, and we met a lot of area knitters or knitter wannabes. (yeah, sorry, we don't give lessons... too busy spinning! :) I do wish it'd have been cooler though- who wants to knit with wool in summer? ;) aside from us crazy folk. Oh well. takoma next weekend! pictures of last weekend soonish.
ran (or, um.. ran/walked/stopped for water) for over 50 minutes today. lost track of the laps I passed. SO MUCH HARDER in the heat! need a bigger water bottle! Agh! but 5K in 1.5 weeks, and we are mostly good to go!
craftiness again!
K8 and I will be making even more crafty appearance with homespun and dyed yarn and totes and tins in tow. I bet we'll be lucky enough to get *actual summer weather* as well... we'll be sitting outside all day for each of these! don't forget the SPF 45!
Sunday June 5, 10 AM to 6 PM - the Mount Pleasant Festival DIRECTIONS: The festival is on Mount Pleasant Street between Irving St and Park Rd. Mount Pleasant is a seven-minute walk west of the Columbia Heights Metro Station on the Green Line. Mount Pleasant is also served by the the 42 and H buses (check with WMATA for re-routing on the day of the festival), and is just a block west of the S bus lines.
Saturday June 11, 11 AM to 7 PM - the Takoma Park Jazzfest. Metro to Takoma!
sneaky!
k8 was pretty sneakily working on labelling yarns last night at our non-meetup. she managed to sell a whole load of yarn! we're once again low on the yummy
soft stuff. guess we should buy more to dye? I totally need to buy more fluff to spin. Anybody need roving? I need to order a minimum of ten pounds at this place, and that is a LOT! I'll have to wait a while... in the meantime.. anyone? merino?? :)
It's awfully soft!

we went wedding looking today. both spots were super. How do you choose? One there was no rental fee, but minimum of ~$70 a person we figure.. the other costs a lot to rent, plus catering turned out to be $65-100 per person.. but it's an awesome spot! the first is next to a big road, though the yard is fairly blocked from sounds.
how to decide? I guess there are still other spots to look at. what if all are great? luckily we did knock
brookside gardens off the list last weekend - it's a madhouse on the weekend!
