Woolarina
SATURDAY!
I cannot wait! We have tons and tons of fancy new yarn that seriously wants a new home. Most of it is soft yummy merino. will you give
them a home? Actually, there's more than twice what is listed on our site at the moment... bound to be some good deals, as this stuff can't possibly sit in my apartment for much longer! New baby yarns are knocking on my door, waiting to be dyed and spun..
So. Saturday. Come visit us! We are at Booth 98.
directions here!

haha.. so in my so called "free time" i have been fitting in moments of happy spinning- before work, after work, waiting to leave, taking a break from studying. I. can. not. stop!

the middle one is even sparkly! I used holographic angelina fibers, or something. which actually seem to break up and shed like a mofo, at least after washing. not sure on them! I didn't have the same problem with the blue/green ones I spun into the yarn a few weeks ago. maybe these just don't work right?
these, and some newer siblings probably, will be at
Crafty Bastards. in SIX days!
10K race?? check.
um. not. I finished half of a madass cross-country 10K race this morning- after running 8 miles last weekend (on, um... flat ground) I thought it would be do-able. I was fine with coming in a good 10-20 minutes AFTER the slowest person from last year. Really. I am not yet trying to be fast..
But this? TORTURE! so many hills! straight up the whole time it seemed! 45 degrees in places!! I was SO NOT running the SECOND LOOP of it. Gotta be kidding me.
Also... the volunteers for the race- who guide you and cheer you on? - were NOT CHEERING ME (last by a good several minutes at that point) ON. Or even looking up to acknowledge me. Boo. You stink. Other runners were somewhat saying yay, way to go, but for the most part? NO LOVE!
So-yes. ran 5K in a super hilly race. didn't do bad at all, for me, considering it was MOUNTAINS! (heh- right next to the flat part I ran last week..) Only a minute or so slower than my 5K's, so considering, I'd be super fast if they removed the climbing parts. right??
Conclusion? Cross country people are snobby, except for the three people who weren't.
Anyhow, I still got free breakfast of muffins and bagels from it. yum for free races that feed you!
I will be trying a
real 10K next weekend! And I might totally go
buy yarn aferwards as a reward!
12 days to go!
less than 2 weeks until
Crafty Bastards. Eeeeek!! I still have so much to do it seems. This is some of the most recent bounty (it *is* talk like a pirate day, no?), but there. are. more. hats. They just magically appear once I cast on. I SWEAR. It must be a magic gift- am I meant to hat the world? I am sooo loving hats right now.

except the pumpkin ones. those I am hating. them and their cottony cashmere. cashmere shmashmere. I do not like cotton, no matter what other fancy animal fiber is spun with it. I will still try the manos sort of cotton to see if it reconciles the fiber for me, but this? I just do not like! why can't cotton be friendly? this is all stringy if I dare to mis-poke my needle, and I am convinced it doesn't make my hands feel great. though that may be attributed to all the other hats, so it's on the maybe list.
Anyhow... spinning. this is why I love dyeing! so many pretty colors! I think I will try and sell this one at some crazy high price, since I love it so much and wouldn't be sad for it to stick around. could make some swell mittens and a hat, maybe. hmmm. so many colors!
mitten madness
I can't get enough mittens made from handspun. Mmmm. merino softness! I love it! These guys match a hat I made a while ago:

and have finally gotten back to spinning a little, now that the craft fair stuff is under control. this one has sparkles! 190 yds. merino/angelina
it ain't easy being green.
Headed off to the beach for several days tomorrow morning... soooo need a break from work and life! I'll leave with a bunch of things I hope to finish at said beach.
mittens from weekend knitting. done in a superbulky handspun. I'm already finding I have to add rows, as it's seeming too short. But, the yarn is fun, and can't wait to finish!
plain jane mittens. look sort of tall to me, so I might felt them slightly.

and finally, from chicknits, I think. a shell.. printed it out a while ago, and the black cotton fleece I had just wasn't doing the job. I'm finally knitting with some of our own
yarn, so I'm super happy.

Couldn't leave that famous frog out on this green sort of day. He lives at UMD these days.
Crafters United
In support of the victims of Hurricane Katrina,
Crafters United is selling a whole bunch of donated crafty items and giving 100% of the proceeds to the Red Cross. I have a
skein of handpun going up soon, and will try to put more up once I'm back from vacation next Thursday.

Check out some very talented craftsters and support a good cause! They've got all sorts of goodies- cards, shirts, pins, hats... something for us all!
