Woolarina
washed out.
why is red so very hard to photograph?! I've dyed some lovely red and pink V-day yarns, but they refuse to get into my camera. Grrr. Anyhow, this stuff is worsted weight superwash. It's lovely, and if the sun happens to be out at some point when I am home, there will be better photos! I love the red and pink, and the hued one (really not discernable here!) but I really love the rainbow ones! They are bright and dark and vibrant all at the same time! If only they didn't take so long to dye...

Here is some superwash sock yarn that I am also in love with!

The top is more rainbow, and the bottom (not so fab- see note on reds above!) is brown with a tinge of olive, with fuschia. Self striping sock yarn! I have to test it still..

And here the top is shades of blue and turquoise and then yellow, lime, and green. Definitely brightens up winter!
Here's some of the recent spun stash waiting for a bath:

the left two are merino singles, then a modgepodge carded single (shiny with mohair!), then some wool from copper moose, and finally two smaller merino two plies.

I just didn't get it right this go-around... I need to hold the thread tighter while letting the two wool plies wrap around. Here, the thread is way loose! And I am not sure the little ballies will last too long if they are knocked about... they didn't seem particularly stable- I think I lost one or two just stringing them up!
Anyhow, many of these yarns will be up on
the site in the coming week... others will probably be taking a trip to a certain new shop in DC. Nothing is final yet, but it's very exciting news!! I will post once it's certain!!
Sweater update: still knitting... I'm starting to doubt my one sweater and my ability to properly make a yoke... it just seems short to me. This, as I am at the neck ready to bind off! So- I picked up Rosedaleish again. Finished the second sleeve, and am probably within an inch of attaching the sleeves. I'll see how that yoke (done by a pattern!) looks compared to the other one... hope I don't have to rip back!
gah
website/catalog is slightly wonky... please email me as well if you happen to want to order anything! the website works, but it doesn't seem to notify me of what was ordered... so it's a big unprofessional guessing game. fun times!
rosedale is nearly to the armpit, so need to finish sleeve 2 then join em all together. my other sweater is almost done done done, but just a few more rows on the neck, and finishing the armpit. all about the armpits these days! :)
pictures in a few days!
random and spun wool
my poor neglected christmas cactus that lives in a too-small pot seems to be flourishing. There's at least a dozen blooms here! Way more than the single bloom last year! I don't have the heart to tell it it's a month late!

These are just some felted balls that hang out with my plants, since I haven't figured out yet what to do with them.. I just like the picture.

Finally, more interesting content.. have been spin-spinning away, on some relatively teensy merino. No photos, but here is some stuff I spun before and while taking a break from it..
Merino single:

farmy wool which is softer and fluffier than I thought it'd be:

and two skeins of random green fluff I carded (merino, falklands, farmwool, and mohair). it's shiny and fuzzy!

These'll go up on
the site once I have time to reskein!
ahem!
attention! (in a small voice, since I'm not really sure I am ready...)
we're having a bit of a sale... not many craft sales on the horizon with wedding planning and all, so I am feeling overwhelmed by the current stash!
And, I want an excuse to allow more yarn into the apartment! ;)
Mostly, though- it's a start for our new catalog! It's in constant change, and I hope to have in beautified soon. So... feel free to look around! And please PLEASE email me - paula at woolarina dot com - if there's anything wonky looking! I don't understand every bit of the software yet, so it's challenging! :)
New
catalog is here. Specials page is
here!
sweater mondays
and update tuesdays...
rosedaleish is coming along well. I am onto skein 3 of the body, have finished one sleeve, and have most of the second sleeve done.

I am wondering if it can still be called a rosedale though... it is actually just a normal pullover at this point. Knit in the round with a yoked (is that the right word?) top. Hm. Anyhow, I am liking it. The metal circular needles don't like my wrists, but it's ok if I switch it up!
Speaking of switching up- I've pulled this one out for a hopeful completion sometime soon... I'm seriously in the home stretch here. just a few more decreases and armpit seaming and it will be done!

I will have a couple of good sized balls of brooks farms mohair leftover, but I'm sure I can find something fuzzy to make with them!
and back to spinning... I carded
this with some brown wool (actually shitty cuts of wool- short fiber, blech! lesson learned!!) that I had though was from the same place... it wasn't.. boo... the remaining brown wool I have will be used as stuffing for some lucky
stuffy, if I ever get back to it! :) Anyhow, I spun a single of this stuff, regardless. somewhat noro-esque.

I don't think it's all so dark... I will have to take another photo skeined up!
rosedale-ish
here is the second skein of the body. knit knit knit. the colors still interest me, but my left wrist is complaining. And yet I keep on knittin. I added more ribbing here (a whole skeins worth!), just because. Hope the shaping still works!
a late xmas thanks (and some fun stuff)
I've been incredibly lazy about christmas this year.. didn't even manage to get out all the cards.. my excuse is the wedding. Lame, I know. Someday I will be the one with all the cards sent in december (maybe before xmas!) and little gifties for my pals. For now, I will just be in awe of people that have it together enough! Thanks for this,
Chelsea! The candles are yum, and the stitchmarkers came at the right time for the new sweater (and since we sold most of our
old ones!)!
And other gifts I already mentioned... some cherry tree hill... have you seen the
controversy? Who knew? I haven't finished the first pair of socks I started with this a while ago, but I will be sure to reset the dye with some acid or vinegar, anyhow! yikes! The yarn itself seems great to me!

And finally- I made this little guy before the holidays but couldn't get a good foto. It needs some more decorations I think, but I lost steam after cutting out a friend for him!
wiping the dust off my wheel
I was shocked to find bits of a spider web on my wheel when I was cleaning before Xmas.. my poor neglected wheel. I can't even remember what I was doing besides spinning.. recovering from craft fairs only takes SO long, you know... anyhow, it's been dusted off and is spinning happily again. a bunch of superbulky merino, pre-washing:

I've declared in the new year, mondays are for sweaters. This is the only day I won't have
running,
yoga,
knitting, or the usual friday going out stuff. to start the year off, I used up Noro ball #2 on sleeve 2 and started ball #3 on the body. round and round and round.

I've been contemplating a list of sorts, reviewing my 2005, but... what have I done? I got engaged in 2004, but am not
getting married til June. I bought marcel's car; he paid me back. nothing exciting big news. ok.. so smaller things.. went to fab wedding in a spanish orange grove, and got terribly sick. navigated paris during a(nother) transit and only got felt up once while being smooshed into a train. ate dinner in a hall in a scottish castle. sold yarn in a completely different state. ran 8 miles once! (ok, that one I am proud about!)
how about looking forward? 2006 *is* my year. Right?! I will
finish sweaters. I will get married. I will go to some
exotic location and sip cold drinks on the beach. I will buy a house or condo if house is unattainable. I will run more than 8 miles at least a few times. I will dye yarn. I will fix
the website.
happy new year!
