  updates and coming changes
texas mohair merino is on sale! This is the last of this we will have for a while... it's great to knit with, and shiny! :) It fuzzes out nicely as well.

Also, in December I'm going to be raising shipping prices a little bit- with paypal fees and all, it's really sucking away the costs, and I've been paying more than $2 on a lot of orders lately! Still, I think $3 is fair, and will let me have some occasional change leftover to include little goodies with orders!

And some new sock yarn - I'll be getting in some fun new blends soon, so check back!

  happy t-day!
Yesterday was spent cooking up a freaking storm. I don't know how I signed myself up for all that cooking! I volunteered, for some reason. Then bougth too much food, so had to cook more. Then my parents were coming over for brunch (mom worked during dinner, so no turkey for her!) so had to make food for that. Agh!

I cooked fritatta with the kitchen sink thrown in, tarte tatin, sweet potato casserole, broccoli/cauliflower/carrots, and a ready made pumpkin pie. Aiaiai. Still, I'd so much rather be in charge of these instead of turkey and those accotrements. Did you know that gravy consists of boiled turkey necks? Ummm. Mental note made here! Bleah.

Today is Buy Nothing Day and I've already bought myself a coffee. Does that count? Really, though, I will be so far from the malls and big box stores today! I have a colleague who's already hit best buy and circuit city! ???? Never mind that I hate those stores on a regular day - I cannot imagine being stuck in there during holiday madness. Yikes.

  not t-day just yet
what a slow work day! Half the office seems to be gone for the holidays. Yet, they've scheduled an all-hands meeting for tomorrow. Um? What's up with that?!

I think I've got most of the yarn online, finally! I will soon be swimming in blank yarn once again, though! The fun never ends!

What isn't fun is the photographing... the winter sun doesn't work so well in my apartment, so there are only a couple of morning hours that pictures look halfway decent. That is, if it is sunny! This past weekend wasn't quite sunny, but after retaking a bunch, I think it was good enough! It's so hard to have it all ready to be photographed on a saturday morning! Aiaiai. Who knew that would be the hard part, huh?

List progress: I will call this no progress at all. I'm 2/3 up the sleeve of the man sweater, though, and to the cuff of my handspun sock. I've also found other knits not on the list to work on. Oops. Actually, I'm nearly done a scarf. Just one reallllly long bind-off row. like, 155 stitches long.

  coming up for air.
So often lately I've been getting overwhelmed by the world. So much to do, so many things to make, a career to not mess up, library books to return, dinner to cook. How do people manage to do this day in and day out forever?

Anyhow, after the last craft fair, I've had a big sigh of relief! Sure, there are a few really fun events coming up, but none of them are so big and high stress! I can make stuff I want to instead of endless variations of hats.

With all this new free time, I'm noticing that every surface in my craft room is covered! Yarn, paper, boxes, wedding gifts, etc. And there are many many projects to be finished that are just in hiding! I posted an entire list on my wall next to my desk so I cannot miss it! There are 3 socks, 3 sweaters, a scarf, mittens, and a bag (or more, I can't remember!) to finish. 10 items. One sock pair needs a single toe; another just a stretchier bind off. Two sweaters need kitchenering.

This. is. manageable.

Hopefully I can maintain focus til at least half are done?! The longish term goal is the end of december. out with the old, and all.

p.s. I started a man sweater. No idea what will happen near the top of it, but the sleeves have almost 10 inches already! The plan is to go back and forth with this and the easier finishing tasks. We'll see! I told him I wouldn't promise an end date!

  handmade arcade
Pittsburgh was super fun! It's definitely a different crowd than in DC and Boston, but was so friendly! What is it with DC anyhow... people are always so nice elsewhere! ;)

This is me during the day - lots of browsers at some point let me knit away! I got two wristwarmers and started on a scarf!

And after most people packed up! I came home with fewer boxes than I went up with, so that makes me happy!

The city itself was also rad - we saw several fun neighborhoods plus the andy warhol museum... who knew the middle of PA had so much culture! :) We'll have to go back again!

  not packed, not ready!
Woolarina will be at Handmade Arcade in Pittsburgh Saturday, with yarn, hats, mitts, cards, stitchmarkers, and lots of other fun stuff in tow.

I lost my finishing needle and has been unable to finish anything in two weeks. Argh. I finally got to Joann's today and bought FIVE. No idea why it didn't cross my mind at stitches. Oh well. the 5 were cheap. There are perhaps a dozen hats and mittens to weave in ends on!

Stitches: rocked, sort of. It was no MDSW or Rhinebeck, but was nice enough. There was yarn. and roving. I spent more than I thought! But got wool for a husband sweater. (Any suggestions for a plain man sweater? a pullover.) I saw a bunch of the local bloggers there and it was super nice! I always feel like I am not social enough... it was all a bit of a haze with me trying to finish stuff for handmade! I hit the usual for a STR skein, got some fun stuff at Habu, and roving from Lisa Souza and Fleece Artist. yum. PHotos at some point. (there's also rhinebeck loot from sarah to show!)

For now, end weaving calls.. as well as bed! waiting in that election line in the cold rain was tiring!!

  shopping!
So I didn't go to Rhinebeck. Boo hoo, right? Well, I had a friendly personal shopper getting me some stuff! She even brought me money back so I'd have more for Stitches! Woot!

From NYSW, there is much roving! Some BFL and silk/merino, from Cloverleaf Farms and Ellen's Half Pint Farm. YUM! I can't wait til I have time to enjoy these!

And then Stitches.. so much shopping!! First up, some socks that rock and a kit for a top - linen... how is linen to knit with? how does it turn from the stiff yarn I have now to the soft drapy top they had on display?

My first encounter with Habu... yummy! They have such interesting yarn. I got some little bits (rayon?) and a cone of steel-silk (I think)... maybe for plying? Or something.

And then the massive bulk... some crazy superbulky and then some gray wool for my very first man sweater. I have NO IDEA what sort of man sweater- something with plain stockinette, and an almost fake turtleneck collar... not sure on the rest. I may just look at what is in his closet. hmmm...

  Knit Mitt Kit Swap
So I can't resist mittens. I love knitting them (minus the thumb) but keep selling the ones I make. I am wearing mittens that are two years old, people! Mittens (and a hat) which I never even wove in the ends to. Tsk tsk.

Anyhow, some questions:

The Questionnaire:
Are you allergic to any fibers? I am not into fuzzy fibers like mohair/angora... they make my nose tickle.

What are your favorite colors? Lately I've liked pinks and oranges, but browns have been calling for fall!

Are you a new mitt knitter? How long have you been knitting mittens? A few years, I guess?

Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn? Either or. I might wear solids more, but stripes would be neat!

What fibers do you prefer in mitten yarn? Soft wool. Merino, corriedale, BFL, whatever.

Where do you usually knit mittens? Um? all over the place, actually. Fit well in my purse!

How do you usually carry/store small projects? Jammed in said purse.

What are your favorite mitten patterns? No idea... it's in my head. But the one in Weekend Knitting is fun.

What are your favorite mitten knitting techniques? There are techniques? I am a plain jane knitter.. I think DC doesn't get cold enough for thrummed mittens, though I'll try that soon. Fair isle looks neat- also on my list.

What new techniques would you like to try? Oh. Um... fair isle, thrumming.

What are your favorite needles for knitting mittens? bamboo dpns

What are some of your favorite yarns? merino handspun! :) I looooove merino.

What yarn do you totally covet? Meh. I'm not a big coveter.

Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object? I've been eyeing the squirrel mittens from Hello Yarn.

Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)? I use mainly bamboo. Clover.

If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be? Eh. Maybe koigu? Great colors. I'd be something merino for sure.

Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack? Dark dark chocolate. Can't go wrong

What’s your favorite animal? Nah.

Would you prefer super warm mittens or something more like fingerless mitts? Full mittens are great.

If you were a color what color would you be? Rainbow colored. hah.

What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature? This is getting all touchy feely! We used lilies on our wedding invites, and as table settings. I love them!

Do you have a wishlist? Yep.

Anything else you’d like to share with the group today?
