  grumble grumble
So the entire federal government is shut down Tuesday for the funeral of President Ford. We will most likely have to come in to work. Or work from home. At least I can get a coffee and ice cream, I suppose.

I finished another of my languishing projects... redoing the tops of some toe-up koigu socks I'd knit long ago. Ugliest colorway ever- what was I thinking? But, I ripped out the cast off edge, added some k1p1 ribbing, and did a kitchener bind off. So lovely and stretchy.

If you look closer, you'll notice that one sock has a K2P2 ribbing and the other has a K2P1 ribbing. wtf? I don't remember why I did that. I guess I am punk rock like that.

I feel so much more at ease finally crossing some of these damn projects off my list.. why have I not done them before?! Partly I have no attention span but part of it is because we are looking at homes to buy, and I want to pare down as much as possible before lugging stuff to a new place. Finish old projects, toss what I don't need. I guess it also all goes with the whole new years thing, but in my head it's been going on for more than a month. Use up what I have before starting new things.

I may perhaps have underestimated my height as it's a bit short, but.. good enough!

  biffle to the wiffle
I spun this a bit ago, and it won the "most fondled yarn" prize at my booths this past weekend. 103 + 15 yards of delicious chunky BFL.

Philly's Punk Rock Flea Market was super fun, though so crowded. I couldn't get through the mobs of people hardly, and didn't dare get lost searching for booths I thought might be there.. serious crowds! Plus beer, which is always nice. And Yuengling *is* better withing Philadelphia city limits! ;)

The Rock 'n' Shop at the Black Cat was also great! A bit of money was raised from the silent auction, so YAY! Thanks to everyone who contributed! We might have an ebay thing in the new year, so stay tuned!

I've been adding random old stuff to the salesale page, so check it out. Trying to make a new start in the new year, and need more space for that! :)

  Auction for Cal!
So I know I've been bugging and bugging you all about all these darn craft fairs! blahblahblahcraftblah. Actually, I'm not even selling stuff at this one, and I am bugging you! But this one is worthwhile for sure!! Please forward it along to everyone who might be interested!

Some of my friends from the Craft Mutiny are collecting donations and having a silent auction with stuff from a lot of great artists and local folk (not just us!) to benefit a local family with a sick little boy. More info:
http://www.desotorecords.com/cal/index.shtml

From the DCist:

>> It's always a good idea to head down to Black Cat for their semi-annual Rock 'N' Shop, a "rock 'n' roll garage sale" that features vendors selling everything from vintage clothes to records to jewelry to handcrafted tee shirts. But this year there's an extra special reason: Local art and craft collective Craft Mutiny and El Jefe Design are teaming up to hold a silent auction to benefit the Callum Robbin Fund 8 to 12:30 p.m.

So if you have time Sunday night and haven't finished all your holiday shopping (or just want to pamper yourself with new stuff!) come check it out.. will be a fun night!

Raffle at the Black Cat for Callum Robbins

Donations Sought for J. Robbins' Son Cal Robbins diagnosed with motor neuron disease

Callum Robbins, son of J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels, plus a slew of producing and engineering credits) and Janet Morgan (Channels), is in need of your help.

In September, the now-ten-month-old Cal was diagnosed with genetic motor neuron disease Spinal Muscular Atrophy (Type 1), an often-fatal disorder; most children with Type 1 SMA will die before the age of two, as it affects their ability to crawl, walk, breathe, swallow, and control their head and neck. At this point in time, it does not have a cure.

SMA-stricken babies who live past the age of two are likely to be wheelchair-bound for life and probably require scoliosis surgery. The condition is an expensive one, especially for parents looking to test out its experimental treatments, which is something Robbins and Morgan hope to do.

As you well know, indie rock godfathers don't usually pull in the big bucks. Thus, DeSoto Records (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Channels) co-founder Bill Barbot has set up a PayPal account to raise money for Cal and his family. Donations can be made to the PayPal account of bbarbot@gmail.com or via the link on Cal's page.

  rinse and repeat
I've been stuck between projects lately- no yarn interests me for the hats I should be knitting, and the bigger projects I can't commit to just yet. Spinning is too much effort right now. What to do?! I did just finish a couple of cool projects, which I hope to get fotos of soon! boring, eh?

I got some new sorts of yarns to dye, and am pleased with the results so far. Still has knots, but do you ever get skeins without knots?! This one is merino-tencel and it is dreamy. I want to start knitting fancy lacy scarves with it!! It is soft and has a lovely nice sheen. Mmmm.

  nylon
I keep hearing that nylon-wool blends wear soooo much better than plain old superwash merino. Heh- I so do not have the problem of wearing out socks, seeing that I rarely finish pairs, eh?

Anyhow, I thought I'd try some out. Superwash, as usual. I got a few pounds to dye, and am liking it so far! It's happier in the dyebath than the superwash merino- fewer light spots to overdye! There are still obnoxious knots to deal with. What's with the knots?! I'd pay more for knot-free. Grrr.

And some holiday stuff, both on my website and etsy!

  so others might eat.
Since this is the season of giving and all and it's about time to write a couple checks to a few places, I figured I'd open it up to the website.

My charity of choice this year is So Others Might Eat. They are a local (DC area) charity that help people who need it with food, clothing, and health care. I especially like them because they do not bombard my mailbox with flashy shiny catalogs of lovely things I should be paying for, despite me giving them cash just last month! These people are down to earth and mean business!

So for all of December, 100% of each purchase (I'll even pay back the fee that paypal takes) will go to this lovely group - who are even having a matching funds campaign this month. PERFECT! Put those dollars to work while you enjoy some holiday knitting.

the only caveat is that only proceeds from "paula's yarn's" will go to this fund, though if I happen to have personal funds leftover after this, I'll try and match purchases from Kate's yarn sales too. Don't let that stop you if you love her's! (She's got some awesome ones up!)

Happy December! Check back for some fun holiday stuff - we have been a crazy assembly line over here this past week!
