using stuff up.
I got a handful of manos at a stash swap a few weeks ago, and had a little leftover from another project. Just barely enough to squeeze out some wristwarmers - right in time for more cold weather!

My friends had a baby a few weeks ago, and this was part of the outfit sent their way (matching hat was included!)... CUTE!! Yarn is Woolarina
Sport.

Oh! And a hat to match my mittens - from Helloyarn's pattern. Super fun, though my stranded knitting totally sucks! Was good for a while, but the top third got pretty loose! Yarn is the sport weight again... (left over from my mittens). I love how fast it goes!

It's a bit camouflage, really, but I love the bright colors! And the warmth of the hat! I knit the lining in the same merino yarn, but it's still a little itchy on my delicate forehead, so next time maybe cotton?? (seriously, merino? itchy? My head has never itched from my other hats... hmmm... maybe it's just a tighter hat.)

I think I may need to practice a little more before the Anemoi mittens! Or at least free up some needles so I can knit both mittens at a time and avoid completely different gauges... we'll see!
Fit Alpacas
While we were waiting at the Honda dealer a couple of weeks ago, I found the advertisement for the new Honda Fit...

An alpaca in a compact?! Ewww.

In preparation for our move, I've been going through my craft supplies. Seriously, who knew I had so much stuff?! This is most of my stuff - there is a tent and some craft fair things in the closet, as well as a trunk out of sight, and a trash bag full of roving.

(The small gray tote in front and the cubby and a half of records is the extent of my husband's hobbies.)
The boxes on the left have yarn/fabric (brown box, bottom), an eventual queen sized quilt above that (hand piecing?!), some felted bags to finish above that, a bunch of half-finished projects with projects to sew ends for on the very top. Then the big beige and clear tupperwares full of hats and scarves and craft fair sale stuff, and basket on top full of yarn for small projects (for craft fairs).
On top of the shelves is my swift, drumcarder, sewing machine, sock yarn and bulky yarn, and giftwrap supplies.

From the top left, across, then down:
-packing supplies, fabric/sewing, sewing/design/craft books, knitting books + scale
-mostly handspun
for site, mostly sock yarn, other yarn + cards/stitchmarkers, wool to spin
-blank yarn + superwash roving,
yarn for sale on this site, some batting + paint/glue, records + random junk.
-grad school notes to be trashed in the coming month (woo hoo! ;), yarn for larger projects, more records.
To be fair, I've got an afghan's worth of yarn sitting on top of the tv in our bedroom collecting dust, and a couple of small baskets under the TV in the living room with yarn.
Either way, doubt I need to buy yarn for a while! When will I find time to finish these projects?!?
Updates!
Dear Friends of Woolarina,
We've been busy this last month- setting up a
newer, better website and spinning and dyeing our hearts out! We are once again ready to face the world - just in time for winter (in DC at least)!
In addition to the website, we've set up a
flickr group so you can share what you've been working on. We also plan to have occasional prizes to hand out randomly chosen from entries, so grab your camera and share some photos! :)
Finally, to celebrate the new site, we have a coupon for you to save 10%! Just enter WOOLARINA when you come to the checkout and the website will take care of the rest!
Happy Knitting!

man, it took me an hour to drive home! The federal govt. was given the rest of the afternoon off... at 2. I left at almost 3, and we still hadn't heard where i work. Boo. Whatever.
The roads are crappy, but the only problems I saw were idiots trying to speed into traffic from a side street and wobble a bit. And an icy hill that I just didn't want to deal with- I saw some people fishtailing around the bottom of it and i just do not trust people today! Crazy icy drivers.
Finally some real wintery weather, though. I was disappointed with last weeks snow... and amused at people attempting to use those giant motorized snowplows on a CENTIMETER of powdery snow. Brooms were apparently too low tech. At least today there's an excuse for salt on the road! Drive safe... there's a lot of morons out there!

I decided I couldn't wait any longer to make myself new winter gear (now that winter's finally here!)..

They have a funky sort of striping happening, but make me happy with all the yellow and lime.

Happy Valentine's Day!! :)

buy some yarn! ;)
sox for all
Our website was recently wiped out by a wholesale order - I'm excited to have more of our yarns going out into the world, but now we've gotta hustle to get more up! :)
Kate's had a busy weekend, and has some
new stuff up! Check it out! They look awesome!
More car buying hate spewing over here, so I will refrain from updating about my life! ;) But here's a happy photo. (Coming soon)
Dear World,
Please stop it!
I am at a loss as to what sort of bad things I must have done in my past life to deserve this. I am only trying to change my name! It isn't so hard. Right?!
Why is it then that every single item I touch has problems? There have been car title problems, check problems, bank problems, work problems, more work problems, insurance problems. What happens if I get sick all of a sudden and my names don't at all match?! I don't dare ask what is going on with my retirement savings. Thank god I changed the name before we sign any papers for our home - I can't imagine what we'd have to go through if I had a different name.
I am tired of playing this game and am just really sad. Please stop. I promise to never ever change my name again.
Sincerely,
NOT PAULA S. & NOT PAULA S. S.-NEWLASTNAME
where have all the civics gone?
We are car shopping. It sucks.
I was stupid enough to include my phone number in the quote checks online so am now getting countless calls from random 800 numbers at home. None of them leave messages and I'm not dumb enough to pick up and talk to them.
But if I did? They would tell me that they do not have any of the car I want in stock. (seriously, like 20 dealers, and none have the model I want!) And, by the way, why on earth would you want to drive a manual transmission? Note: fuck off! NO SALE FOR YOU!
Hello, I am willing to thrown money at you, actually. If you would just have a damn car in stock!
I have found exactly two cars that fit the bill, anywhere. Both are dark sparklyish gray. Not a bad color, but I soooo wanted the bright sparkly blue! Sigh... I suppose it's better than some of the other colors offered - bland beige or taffeta white. No offense to anyone who likes these - I just like BRIGHT! COLORS!
And yes. We are buying a car and a home in the same month. Talk about stress? We did NOT plan this. Grrr. Perhaps we could make it a three-fer and get pregnant or something? ;) Haha. NO!
be mine
I for one am getting a pretty sweet valentine's gift this year... not intentional, but it works out to make my husband look great! ;) Will let you know soon.
Anyhow, to celebrate the holiday of shmoopyness...
Woolarina SaleFrom now until February 14, save 15 % on marked pink and purple and reddish yarn when you use the coupon code

I think that yarns will show up as on sale if you put the code into the cart, but I'm not sure. Also, if you see a yarn that you think oughta be included and we forgot? Just ask!
whoa!
It's been a week almost and our excitement is still building! The more we see it the more we like it! Several other condos are coming on the market now in the same area, and this one seems the best, and for slightly less money. We did the home inspection Saturday and didn't find much at all wrong with it, aside from a couple minor things. Yippee!
So more about it... it's on the 3rd floor (only drawback, really), actually has a separate dining room (only dining room we've seen in our search), has a fireplace, a tiny bathroom (circa 1950s they were all small!), two bedrooms, both with large closets, including one large closet along the wall in the second bedroom with sliding doors - perfect to hide/store my wooly stuff. Kitchen's got new appliance, and the rest is in good shape, though we'll likely replace the oldish cabnets and formica countertop and the linoleum. And washer and dryer! (the main requirement.) Windows are on the front and back of the building, so light should be around much of the day. And there's a pool outside the back of the place! Woohoo!

What we really like about it, though, is that it's a neighborhood of youngish people like us. There's a little strip of shops nearby with a couple restaurants, a deli, an organic food coop, a bike shop, and a gym. The place is right next to
Rock Creek Park, so there'll be even less of an excuse to not get out there and run and bike and hike! It's on the bus line and about a mile's walk to metro and food/shopping/movies.
We're ecstatic!
